Proceedings EXCON´04

The proceedings of EXCON´04 will be published as a separate volume in Journal of Luminescence. Please note that only one manuscript will be accepted for each participant who is present at the conference. The manuscript should be submitted in PDF-format by e-mail to excon@physik.tu-chemnitz.de. Deadline for submission of the manuscripts is Wednesday, 30th June 2004. Please note that you have to submit your manuscript 2 weeks earlier, namely until 15th June 2004, if you want to be eligible for the EXCON prize.

As a consequence of the arrangement with the publisher, all the deadlines will be strictly observed; post-deadline papers may be submitted to J. Lumin. to be considered on a regular basis for publication in another issue of the journal.

Instructions to Authors

All manuscripts should be written in proper English in the style of J. Luminescence. The length of the article should not exceed 6 and 4 printed journal pages for invited lectures and contributed papers, respectively. As a rule of thumb, the mean reduction factor from the number of manuscript pages (including also equations and figures) to the number of printed journal pages is 0.6. A more detailed estimate of the length of your paper should be done according to the table below.

Please submit only a PDF-version by e-mail until the deadline. In addition, please bring 3 printed copies and an electronic version on a disk or CD with you to the conference. These copies should be submitted at the conference office on 5th or 6th July. The refereeing procedure will be started during the conference. If only small corrections are requested, these can hopefully be performed already during the conference. In any case the final version of the manuscript (after a possible revision) should be accompanied by an electronic version on a floppy-disk or on a CD-ROM. For the text and equations, please use Word or (LA)TEX.

For figures TIFF, EPS, GIF, PDF is fine. Please make sure that all labels are still legible when the figure is reduced to the appropriate width for the journal, i.e. 7.5 cm for a single column. Also please check that dotted and broken lines can be clearly distinguished. Please avoid originally coloured lines which are printed in grey and may be difficult to distinguish.

The first page of the manuscript should contain in this order: Article Title, Author(s), Affiliation(s), Abstract, PACS Codes, Keywords (up to 6), Name, Complete Postal Address, Telephone and Fax numbers as well as the Email Address of the corresponding author.
The following pages contain the Main Text, Acknowledgements, Appendices, References, Figure Captions, Tables and Figures.

References should be given in the style of J. Luminescence:

How to estimate the length of a paper

Calculate 800 words per printed page, therefore you should not exceed 4800 words for invited lectures and 3200 for contributed papers.

Allow for words equivalent your number of your effective word count
Title, authors, affiliation, first-page overhead400oncepaper400
Each additional affiliation48 add. aff.
Abstract1 words
Main text1 words
Single column figures, 5 cm height120 figs.
Double column figures, 5 cm height240 figs.
Figure captions1 words
Simple equations24 eqs.
Single column tables per line10 lines
Double column tables per line20 lines
Table captions1 words
References16 refs.
Total

Multiply the value in column "words equivalent" with your number count and fill the result into the last column. Make sure that the total sum does not exceed 3200 (4800) words. Please submit this table with the three copies of your manuscript on the first day of the conference.
