What is femtochemistry? The elementary processes that bring about chemical change usually occur with great rapidity. Many processes in liquid phase, such as vibrational relaxation, solvation, electron transfer and proton transfer, can take place on the picosecond to femtosecond time scale. Femtosecond laser spectrometers can be used to investigate elementary ultrafast processes in real time. Femtosecond spectroscopy is a valuable tool for the study of ultrafast events in chemistry, physics and biology. |
