  1. Synthesis and conformational analysis of chiral molecules based on the structure of medium ring sized and benzannulated lactams and L-amino acids

  5. The development of selective and efficient synthetic methods of new N, S and O-heterocycles of potential biological activity.
  6. The heterocyclization of enamine derivatives of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds.
  7. Conformational analysis of medium-sized heterocycyles.

The present subjects of research:
  1. Synthesis and conformational analysis of small-sized peptides with medium ring lactams in their structures; such peptides are potential mimetics of back-turns of b type. [M. O.]


  2. Exploiting of peptides as enantioselective catalysators in reactions of forming new C-C bonds with the generation of new stereogenic centers, eg. in aldol reactions and Michael type additions. [M. O.]


  3. Synthesis of spiro, dispiro i trispiropiranes in Diels-Alder cycloaddition reactions. Semiempirical calculations for the obtained spiropiranes[A. P.]


  4. Studies in green chemistry concerning conveying Knövenagel condensations and Diels-Alder reactions under in water and on water conditions [A. P.]


  5. Synthesis and conformational analysis of cyclic peptides [B. M.]


  6. The influence of various electron-withdrawing substituents on diastereoselectivity and yield of the products of heterodiene cycloaddition.
  7. Domino reactions of ?,ß-unsaturated thioamides
  8. Reactions of conjugate addition-cyclization of CH-acids with electrophilic olefins.
  9. Rearrangements of hydroxyimino- thiophene derivatives.

Our research

Research conveyed in Biologically-Active Heterocyclic Compounds Research Group include the syntheses of complex heterocyclic compounds which might exibit biological activity. We are particularly interested in nitrogen and sulphur heterocycles. As the substrates novel 3-oxoacids derivatives serving as building-blocks, natural chiral cyclic ketones (+)-camphore, (-)-carwone, (+)-pulegone) and naturally occuring L-a-aminoacids are used.


Now we are carrying on research projects listed below:
  • the syntheses of heterocyclic systems in the processes of the rearrangements of 3-oxoacids derivatives to 2-hydroxyacids derivatives,
  • studies on rings expansions (from five-membered to six-membered and from six-memebrered to seven-membered), in the course of these rearrangements
  • synthesis of new chiral ionic liquids, also optically active
  • enancjomeric resolution of 2-hydroksyaminoacids (lactic acid derivatives) by the synthesis of diastereomeric peptides
  • studies on properties of zwitterionic heterocycles and using them in hetecyclisation processes leading to saturated multi-ring systems
  • synthesis of 2-thioxoimidazolidine and 1,4-piperazine derivatives
  • asymmetric synthesis of 2,3-diaminocarboxylic acids
  • application of novel-a-amido-a-aminonitrones in the syntheses of heterocycles

In the collaboration with the Department of Analitycal Chemistry and the Department of Chemical Technology we plan and synthesize novel ligands for making ion imprinted polimers (IIP), serving for selective concentration of Cu2+ and Cd2+ ions:

  • highly functionalised salen derivatives
  • chelat type ligands (pyridine derivatives)
  • silicon-organic ligands for silica gel modification

In the collaboration with the Department of Crystalochemistry and Crystalophisics we carry crystallographical studies of new compounds.
