Transportation in Kraków

The CTTC VIII Conference Venue (the new building which houses Jagiellonian University’s Faculty of Chemistry) is located at Gronostajowa 2, 30-387 Kraków. The venue’s main entrance is accessed from Łojasiewicza street and can easily be reached by public transport (MPK).

From the city center area, you can take trams no. 18 (e.g. stop “Teatr Bagatela”, 5 min. away from “Dom Profesorski im. St. Pigonia”) and 52 (e.g. stop “Teatr Słowackiego”, 5 min away from the Krakow Glowny train station), or bus no. 194. The “Czerwone Maki P+R” direction of all of these routes will take you very close to the conference venue; you should disembark at the “Norymberska” stop (this stop is located near a Kaufland store and is a short walk from the Faculty building – when you disembark, proceed further on foot along the pedestrian path that follows the tram track in the same direction that the tram/bus was going; the faculty building will soon appear on your right).

You can also easily plan your trips within the whole city with the jakdojade.pl application at https://jakdojade.pl/krakow/trasa/ (available in English for Android, iOs and Windows Phone), simply enter the starting point and destination and it will print several travel options. With this service you can get real-time directions from your location to any destination using the public transport, as well as an approximate time of arrival at the destination.

Please be advised that there are several ongoing construction works around the city of Kraków which may affect public transport. A convenient and up-to-date map of the city transport system can be found at https://www.atlaskolejowy.net/kmkrakow/
Also be advised that the school-year starts on September 2nd, which may affect the public transportation schedules and traveling time.

Below are the prices (in PLN) of some selected tickets in the city transport system MPK:

  • single journey = 50 min ticket, 4.60
  • 48-hour ticket, 28.00
  • 72-hour ticket, 42.00
  • 7-days ticket, 56.00

Tickets can be bought from vendors at some kiosks, from stationary ticket vending machines at some tram/bus stops, or from ticket vending machines installed in the transportation vehicle (using only coins and / or debit/credit card; some of these machines will take only one option or the other). Drivers can sell 90-minute tickets (for 6 PLN) when the vehicle is stopped, but only if the ticket machine that is installed on the vehicle is not functioning.

Remember that all tickets have to be validated (with a time stamp) when you start your journey; this is done by inserting your ticket into one of the stamping machines that are installed in every vehicle.
