Kraków with the population of almost 800 thousand, was awarded the title of the European City of Culture and is one of the most willingly visited Polish city. It is resilient centre of scientific, economic and social life. The city owes its renown not only to the impressive historical heritage but also a potential of educated and creative people who are full of initiative. It is a city of science, the seat of one of the oldest universities in Europe, Jagiellonian University. Almost 170 thousand students attend the 24 academies and universities in Kraków. The city maintained its original urban layout with the largest European Medieval square. In 1978 the Kraków centre has been inscribed on UNESCO's First List of the World Cultural Heritage list.
Krakow lies in the southern part of Poland on the Vistula River in a valley
at the foot of the Carpathian Plateau, 219 meters above sea level. Approximately
300 km (190 miles) north is Warsaw, the capital of Poland, and 100 km (60 miles)
south are the Tatra Mountains, forming the southern border of the country.

By road:
Kraków can be reached by road E77 from North (via Warsaw, Kielce) or from
South (via Chyżne) and by road E40 from West (via Wrocław, Opole,
Katowice, including an optional paid motorway A4 Katowice - Kraków) or from East
(via Rzeszów, Tarnów). Please note that there are many inexpensive
coaches connections between Kraków and main European cities.
In the first half of September the weather in Kraków should be quite sunny, with temperature 20 - 25° C during the day, and about 10 - 15° C at night or early morning. However, a warm sweater or jacket and an umbrella might be very useful in case of a weather change.
